Chapter 2 - The Trap Springs(Focus: The chaos at DFW airport as Adrian and Vanessa are stopped; the revelation of the frozen accounts and invalidated passport.)

The international departures terminal at DFW Airport was buzzing with early morning travelers, but inside the first-class check-in line, a private storm was brewing. Adrian Mercer adjusted the collar of his coat, a look of growing irritation washing over his handsome features as his sleek black American Express Centurion card was slid through the card reader for the fourth consecutive time.
"I am terribly sorry, Mr. Mercer," the airline agent said, her voice dripping with practiced, professional apology. "The system is returning a hard-decline code. It’s not an issue with our machine. The issuing bank has placed an immediate administrative freeze on the entire account hierarchy."
"That is mathematically impossible," Adrian snapped, his voice rising, drawing glances from nearby passengers. Vanessa stepped forward, her heels clicking loudly against the polished tile, her dark sunglasses sliding down the bridge of her nose.
"Adrian, what is taking so long? The boarding call for the Paris flight is in fifteen minutes," she hissed, shifting her weight. As she moved her arm, the diamonds of my mother's heirloom bracelet caught the harsh light, glinting like broken glass.
"Just use the corporate debit card," Adrian muttered, his brow furrowing as a cold sweat began to form at the base of his neck. He pulled out a secondary platinum card—the primary operational account for Mercer Medical Logistics. "Run this one. There is over four million dollars in liquidity in this account as of midnight."
The agent swiped the card. A sharp, high-pitched error beep echoed from the terminal.
"Sir, this card is also flagged. In fact, there is an administrative message on my screen requesting that I retain the physical cards and notify airport security," the agent said, her posture suddenly straightening, her eyes darting to a pair of uniformed TSA officers standing near the security barrier.
"Don't touch those cards!" Adrian roared, snatching them back from the counter. His heart was hammering against his ribs now, a sickening sensation of impending doom settling into his stomach. He ripped his phone out of his pocket, staring at the text message I had sent him less than an hour ago: Enjoy the airport.
"She knows," Vanessa whispered, her voice cracking as she watched the two armed security officers begin to walk deliberately toward their check-in desk. "Adrian... the text. The useless bitch knows."
"Shut up, Vanessa!" Adrian hissed, his fingers shaking violently as he tried to log into his offshore mobile banking application. The screen blinked with a stark, brutal red notification: ACCESS DENIED. ACCOUNT SUSPENDED BY COURT ORDER CIVIL CASE NO. 2026-F-8892.
"Mr. Mercer?"
Adrian spun around to face the two TSA officers, flanked by a man in a sharp, dark gray suit carrying a leather briefcase. The man in the suit didn't look like airport security; he looked like a federal enforcement officer.
"Adrian Mercer?" the man in the gray suit asked, pulling a laminated badge from his pocket. "I am Special Agent Miller with the Criminal Investigation Division of the IRS. I am serving you with a federal asset-restraining injunction issued three hours ago by the Northern District of Texas. Furthermore, your passport has been electronically flagged and revoked under Section 51.62 of the federal code due to an active grand jury investigation into corporate embezzlement and grand larceny."
Vanessa let out a sharp, choked scream, instinctively reaching down to cover the diamond bracelet on her wrist.

"This is a ridiculous civil dispute!" Adrian stammered, his face turning a ghostly shade of gray as his corporate facade began to fracture in real-time. "My wife is an unstable woman filing a malicious divorce! You have no legal right to halt my international business travel!"
"We aren't here because of your divorce, Mr. Mercer," Agent Miller said with a terrifyingly calm smile. "We are here because forty-eight hours ago, the actual primary shareholder of Mercer Medical Logistics—Elena Vance-Mercer—provided this office with twenty thousand pages of forensic accounting data detailing twelve million dollars in fraudulent international wire transfers. You aren't going to Paris, sir. Please step out of the line."
