Chapter 7 - A New DawnSix months later, the Chicago skyline was bathed in the warm, golden glow of a brilliant spring morning.

The forty-second-floor office of Marino Enterprises looked different. The heavy, oppressive tension that had once choked the air was gone, replaced by vibrant energy, fresh flowers on the reception desk, and the quiet, productive hum of a legitimate empire running smoothly.
Inside the executive office, the old Persian rug had been replaced with a brand-new, immaculate white-and-gold weave—and yes, the invoice had been paid without a single dispute over biohazard fees.
I stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, looking out over the glittering expanse of Lake Michigan, wearing a tailored navy blazer and holding a cup of fresh coffee.

“Lucas called this morning,” Dante murmured softly against my neck. “The head physician at St. Jude’s says his latest treatment is showing remarkable progress. They’re talking about him moving into an independent assisted-living apartment by next year.”
A warm tear slipped down my cheek, but I was smiling. I turned around in his arms, wrapping my arms around his neck.
“Thank you, Dante,” I whispered. “For everything.”
“You saved my life, Emily,” he replied, looking down at me with deep, unwavering affection. “You brought warmth back into a house that had been cold for nine years. You didn't just balance my books—you balanced my soul.”

He leaned down and kissed me, a soft, lingering kiss that tasted of morning coffee and infinite possibilities.
Downstairs, the city of Chicago bustled with life, unaware of the boardroom wars and underworld battles that had shaped its destiny. But up here, high above the streets, the most feared Mafia boss in America and his brilliant, unflappable former secretary had finally found something far more valuable than power or money: a future, built on truth, strength, and a laugh that had changed everything.
