Chapter 6 - The Cleansing Fire and the New HorizonTwo weeks after Trevor’s ouster, the corporate restructuring of Cross Meridian Group was officially finalized.

The subsidiary shell companies used for embezzlement were dissolved. The questionable real estate holdings in Malibu were liquidated to repay institutional investors. And under my leadership as Chairwoman, Cross Meridian returned to its core mission: ethical, sustainable technological innovation that actually valued human capital over flashy public relations stunts.

The media storm had slowly quieted down, replaced by glowing financial profiles praising the company’s dramatic turnaround and stability under new leadership.

On a crisp November afternoon, I stood on the wraparound balcony of the penthouse overlooking Lake Harriet, holding Henry in one arm while Miles slept securely in a front baby carrier against my chest.

The autumn leaves had turned vibrant shades of amber and gold, rustling softly in the cool breeze drifting off the water.

Marcus Vance walked out onto the balcony, holding a thick manila envelope and a steaming mug of tea.

“Well,” Marcus said, handing me the tea and leaning against the railing beside me. “The final settlement papers for Trevor’s bankruptcy proceedings just cleared court. He accepted a plea deal on the financial irregularity charges—two years probation, community service, and every remaining personal asset seized to pay off his mounting legal debts.”

“And Sienna?” I asked quietly, watching a flock of geese glide across the surface of the lake.

“She moved back to New York last week, trying to salvage what’s left of her modeling career,” Marcus chuckled softly. “Though word on the street is that no major brand will touch her after her association with Trevor’s financial scandal.”

I nodded slowly, feeling a profound sense of closure settle deep into my bones.

The chapter was closed. The ghosts were laid to rest.

“How are the boys doing with their new pediatrician?” Marcus asked, looking down affectionately at Henry, who blinked his big, bright blue eyes and let out a soft baby yawn.

“They’re thriving,” I smiled, kissing the top of Henry’s dark head. “Growing bigger and more stubborn every single day. Just like their father—only this time, they’ll be raised by someone who knows their true worth.”

Marcus smiled warmly. “You built an empire twice, Audrey. Once from the shadows, and once from the throne. What’s next for Cross Meridian?”

I looked out over the skyline of Minneapolis, where the lights of the city were just beginning to flicker on against the gathering dusk.

“We expand globally, Marcus,” I said, my voice steady, confident, and filled with boundless possibility. “And this time, we build it to last.”
