Chapter 2 - The Freezing of the EmpireThe master servers of Whitaker-Vance Holdings were housed in a secure subterranean data center three floors beneath the financial district, protected by biometric locks and multi-layered military-grade firewalls. But none of those firewalls were designed to block the primary owner of the cryptographic root keys.

When Protocol Delta hit the central processing units at 11:45 PM, eighteen distinct institutional accounts linked to Ethan Vance froze simultaneously.
In his high-rise apartment across town—an upscale penthouse Ethan had purchased under a shell company using embezzled restructuring funds—his personal banking apps began refreshing frantically on his iPad. One by one, balances flipped from six-figure numbers to bold, unforgiving zeros.
Account Status: Suspended.
Credit Line: Revoked.
Pending Wire Transfers: Canceled by Administrator.
Ethan stared at the screen, his fingers shaking as he tapped mindlessly against the glass, trying to force a transaction through. Nothing moved. His digital footprint in the upper echelons of Manhattan finance was being systematically erased line by line, folder by folder.
"Pick up the phone!" Vanessa screamed from the doorway of the master bedroom, her hair disheveled, clutching her designer handbag as if it were a life raft. "Call your father’s contacts! Call the board members! If those accounts stay frozen by morning, our margin calls are going to trigger a total liquidation!"
Ethan threw his iPad against the hardwood floor. The screen shattered into a spiderweb of black lines and glowing pixel leaks.
"Who do you think put those board members there in the first place?!" Ethan roared, standing up so fast his chair flipped over backward. "Mary’s grandfather founded this entire enterprise! The board answers to the Whitaker trust, not to me! I was just a placeholder with a fancy title, and I was stupid enough to think I could outsmart them!"
Vanessa’s face twisted in disgust. The sweet, fragile colleague act had completely dissolved, replaced by a desperate, venomous panic. "You told me you controlled the voting block! You told me Mary was a weak, sheltered heiress who would just sign the pre-nup addendums without reading them!"
"I miscalculated, okay?!" Ethan yelled, grabbing his hair in frustration. "I didn't think she had a direct line to Julian Vance outside of our corporate counsel! She must have set up an independent shadow trust months ago!"
Before Vanessa could fire back another accusation, a sharp, rhythmic pounding echoed against the heavy oak front door of the penthouse.
Bang. Bang. Bang.
Both of them froze. The apartment suddenly felt terribly small, suffocatingly quiet.
"Are we expecting someone?" Vanessa whispered, her voice trembling.
"No," Ethan said, his blood running cold. "Nobody knows we’re here except..."
The deadbolt didn't turn. Instead, a loud click-whir signaled the override of the smart-lock system. The heavy front door swung wide open, revealing two men in dark tailored suits wearing earpieces and federal marshals' jackets. Behind them stood Julian Vance, holding a sleek aluminum briefcase, his expression entirely devoid of emotion.
"Ethan Vance and Vanessa Hayes," Julian said calmly, stepping across the threshold. "You are served with federal notice of asset seizure, restraining orders prohibiting the disposal of luxury goods, and an immediate eviction order for this property."
Ethan stepped back until the back of his legs hit the edge of the sofa. "You can't do this! This apartment is under my personal holding LLC!"
Julian adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses, pulling a certified document from his briefcase. "Your holding LLC was funded via unauthorized loans drawn from Whitaker-Vance subsidiary accounts—a textbook violation of corporate fiduciary duty. Under federal law and master trust provisions, all assets acquired through misappropriated funds revert immediately to the primary trust holder."
Julian gestured to the marshals. "Pack whatever personal clothing fits into a single standard duffel bag. You have ten minutes before the locks are changed permanently."
Vanessa let out a sharp, hysterical cry, dropping her designer handbag onto the floor as reality finally set in. "This is insane! We’re going to ruin you! We’ll sue you for harassment!"

Julian didn't even blink. He turned his gaze slowly toward her, his eyes cold as winter stone. "Ms. Hayes, you might want to save your energy for your own legal counsel. Forensic audits show that over three million dollars in unauthorized transfers were routed directly into your offshore accounts over the past six months. The tax evasion charges alone carry a twenty-year sentence."
Vanessa staggered backward, her legs giving out beneath her as she collapsed onto the edge of the entryway bench, staring blankly at the floor as her gilded world crumbled into dust.
