Chapter 2 - The Midnight Eviction and the First DominoStanding at the edge of the snowy driveway, waiting for the black bulletproof Maybach I had ordered to pick us up, my mind raced through the meticulous web of lies Graham and his mother had spun.

He never knew that the board answered to a shadow committee. He never knew that his promotion was a birthday gift from his wife, orchestrated so he could feel like a man of status.

And now, that very company, that very house, and every single cent in his personal and corporate accounts were about to vanish beneath his feet.

Ten minutes later, a silent, obsidian-tinted Maybach glided up to the curb, its tires crunching softly against the fresh snow. The rear door clicked open instantly, and David, my head of security, stepped out into the freezing wind, his face rigid with shock and suppressed fury as he saw me holding two newborns on the open street.

“Ms. Vale,” David breathed, stepping forward immediately to take the heavy suitcase and shield us from the wind with his broad shoulders. “My God... what happened?”

“Drive, David,” I said steadily, sliding into the heated leather interior of the car and pulling my babies close to my chest. “And connect me to corporate restructuring. We have an executive audit to accelerate.”

As the car purred away from the mansion, leaving the glowing windows behind, I watched Harrington Luxe’s silhouette fade into the winter darkness. Graham was inside right now, pouring another glass of scotch, laughing with his mother about how easily they had discarded the “cheap designer.” He was probably drafting the brutal, one-sided divorce agreement he planned to shove in my face over breakfast, completely unaware that the financial clock was already ticking down to zero.

By 3:00 a.m., Marcus had executed Phase One.

My phone buzzed softly on the center console. A secure encrypted file appeared on my screen: Initial Asset Seizure Report.

Graham’s personal checking accounts—including the discretionary funds he used to finance his luxury sports cars, his country club memberships, and his mother’s endless stream of designer shopping sprees—had been flagged under federal compliance review due to suspected corporate embezzlement. Because Graham had routinely signed off on inflated expense reports using Harrington Luxe’s subsidiaries (subsidiaries owned entirely by Vale International), Marcus’s legal team had enough documentation to freeze every liquid asset bearing his name within minutes.

He wouldn't even be able to buy a cup of coffee when he woke up.

“Where to, Ms. Vale?” David asked gently from the front seat, glancing back through the rearview mirror with deep concern. “The penthouse in downtown Chicago? Or the private estate on the lake?”

“The penthouse,” I said, looking down at Noah and Leo, who had finally drifted into a peaceful, warm sleep. “And David? Make sure the security detail at Harrington Luxe’s headquarters is briefed for tomorrow morning. I want a complete lock on the executive floor before Graham even swipes his ID badge.”

A slow, grim smile crossed David’s face. “Consider it done, ma’am. They won't know what hit them.”
