Chapter 7 - The Garden of New BeginningsSpring in Chicago finally gave way to the vibrant, sun-drenched warmth of early June.

The sprawling back gardens of the Vescari estate were a breathtaking ocean of blooming white roses, freshly cut green lawns, and soft classical melodies drifting from hidden speakers across the terrace. Two hundred of Chicago’s most influential figures had gathered once again on the very same lakeside terrace where disaster had struck nearly two months ago.
This time, however, there was no fear in the air. Only absolute, unwavering respect.
At the center of the terrace stood a floral-lined white gazebo, beneath which I stood wearing a floor-length, custom-tailored ivory silk gown that caught the afternoon sunlight like liquid gold.
My brother Leo, healthy, smiling, and free, stood in the front row beside Maya and Dante, wiping a proud tear from his eye.
The wedding march began to play softly.
From the double doors of the mansion, Julian Vescari rolled out onto the terrace. But halfway down the stone aisle, to the absolute astonishment of the entire guest list, Julian planted his hands on the armrests, locked his jaw with fierce determination, and slowly rose to his feet.
Using only a pair of sleek, carbon-fiber forearm canes and his own sheer, unyielding willpower, he took one steady step forward. Then another.
A collective, breathless gasp rippled through the crowd, quickly turning into a thunderous, standing ovation that shook the very stones beneath our feet.
Julian didn't look at the crowd. His dark, burning eyes never left mine as he walked the remaining distance down the aisle, step by agonizing, triumphant step, proving to Chicago—and to himself—that no paralysis, no betrayal, and no depth of water could ever keep him down.
When he reached the altar, he dropped the canes, caught my hands in his warm, steady palms, and smiled.
“You said you were a lifeguard,” Julian whispered, his voice thick with emotion as the priest began the ceremony. “I didn't realize you were planning on saving my entire soul.”
“Only if you promise never to fall backward into a lake again,” I whispered back, my eyes shining with tears of absolute joy.
As Julian slipped a heavy, diamond-encrusted platinum band onto my finger, sealing our vows with a deep, passionate kiss that made the entire terrace erupt into cheers, I looked out over the sparkling expanse of Lake Michigan.

The water was calm, beautiful, and serene. The ghosts of the past were gone, washed away by truth and time. We had walked through the dark, treacherous depths of betrayal, and we had emerged on the other side untouchable.
And as Julian pulled me close against his chest for our first dance as husband and wife, I knew the rest of our story was going to be nothing short of a masterpiece.
