Chapter 3 - The Purge of the Brooklyn DocksAt 8:00 AM the following morning, the sweeping glass-walled executive conference room atop the Kinsley Maritime Terminal in South Brooklyn was packed to absolute capacity.

Over forty senior shipping directors, syndicate captains, high-society attorneys, and corporate executives sat around the forty-foot carved mahogany table beneath cold, fluorescent lights. Outside, the rain continued to beat against the sweeping panoramic windows overlooking the gray waters of the harbor.
Sitting at the head of the table, wearing a dark bespoke suit, smoking an expensive cigar, was forty-eight-year-old Donovan Pierce. Beside him sat his legal advisor, Richard Sterling, smirking as they prepared to sign an emergency proxy agreement transferring control of the berths to the Moretti family.
"Gentlemen," Donovan announced into the central microphone, his voice dripping with smooth, condescending authority, "due to recent... unfortunate administrative lapses in Mr. Kinsley's personal office, we are executing an emergency vote to transfer maritime operational authority to my private holding firm—"
BOOM!
The heavy double glass doors of the executive conference room were thrown open with a violent, hydraulic impact!
The chatter of forty corporate executives vanished into an absolute, speech-bound silence.
Walking down the central carpeted aisle, flanked by Marcus Vance and six armed private security officers in charcoal tactical gear, was me.
I wore a crisp dark charcoal bespoke suit, my broad frame squared, my dark gray eyes burning with an untouchable, sovereign authority that dropped the room's temperature to zero.
And walking right beside me, wearing a breathtaking floor-length dark emerald silk suit that celebrated her elegant figure, holding a leather folder flat against her chest, her dark hazel eyes radiant and unbroken, was Natalie Flores.
Donovan Pierce dropped his cigar.
The glowing ash fell flat onto his silk tie, burning a small hole through the fabric, as his face went from arrogant red to an ugly, paper-white shade of green.
"R-ROMAN...?! NATALIE?!" Donovan stammered, taking two panicked steps backward against his heavy leather chair. "WHAT IS THIS AMBUSH?! NATALIE WAS ARRESTED LAST NIGHT FOR ASSAULT!"
"The assault charges were dropped three hours ago, Donovan," I announced flatly, my clear, deep baritone carrying cleanly across the silent room, dropping the ambient temperature to zero. "And your tenure as my chief of operations is officially over."
Natalie stepped forward, placing the silver flash drive flat onto the center of the mahogany table, plugging it into the master presentation console.
High-definition digital financial ledgers and intercepted audio recordings immediately filled the giant monitors around the room:
THE SEVENTEEN MILLION DOLLAR EMBEZZLEMENT: Certified banking registries proving Donovan Pierce rerouted corporate funds into offshore accounts in Panama.
THE MORETTI TREASON: Encrypted audio recordings capturing Donovan negotiating the sale of Kinsley Holdings' deep-water access codes to Victor Moretti.
THE FRAMING SCHEME: Proof that Donovan paid Mickey Wallace to stage an extortion attempt against Natalie Flores to discredit her before the annual audit.
Donovan fell flat onto his knees behind the table, his hands shaking frantically as federal marshals stepped out from the hallway, pulling heavy steel handcuffs from their belts.
"ROMAN! PLEASE!" Donovan shrieked, tears dripping onto the mahogany table. "WE WERE BROTHERS FOR FIFTEEN YEARS! I DID IT FOR MY FAMILY!"
I looked down at the man who had betrayed my empire and targeted the woman I loved, feeling no hatred, no anger—only an absolute, clean, weightless disgust.
"You didn't do it for your family, Donovan," I answered softly, every word falling like a block of iron. "You did it for your own greed. And now you can spend the next twenty years reflecting on it in a federal cell."
