Chapter 5 - The Gathering Storm(Focus: Lorenzo returns to Long Island disguised; he hunts down the corrupt doctor and extracts a confession; the trap is laid for Victor.)

The city was dark, covered in a thick blanket of fog that rolled off the Atlantic. I didn't return to the burning ruins of my mansion. Instead, I moved through the subterranean safe houses of Manhattan, assembling a small, highly lethal crew of old-guard loyalists—men who had served my father and who still believed in the sacred law of the bloodline.
At 3:00 AM on Thursday, Dr. Julian Halloran was leaving his private medical clinic in the Upper East Side. He was carrying a leather briefcase, his face tense as he hurried toward his luxury sedan, his eyes darting nervously around the quiet street.
He never reached his car.
Two of my men grabbed him from the shadows, dragging him into the back of an unmarked panel van before he could even let out a gasp.
When the blindfold was ripped from Halloran's face, he found himself tied to a heavy metal chair in the center of an abandoned meatpacking warehouse in Brooklyn. The only light came from a single, bare bulb swinging overhead. I stood in front of him, my hands clad in black leather gloves, my face illuminated by the harsh, yellow glare.
"Lorenzo!" Halloran gasped, his chest heaving with terror as he tried to pull against the thick zip-ties binding his wrists. "Thank God you're alive! The mansion... the papers said there was a terrible fire! They said you and the baby were trapped inside!"
"Cut the performance, Julian," I said, my voice a low, terrifying rumble that echoed off the damp brick walls. "I’ve seen the Cayman transaction logs. I’ve seen the maintenance signatures from Marcus Vance. And I know exactly what Nurse Brenda was putting in my son's bottles."
Halloran’s face instantly drained of color, his jaw going completely slack. "No... Lorenzo, please... you don't understand. Victor... Victor threatened my family! He said if I didn't help him make the baby look like a medical failure, he would execute my daughters!"
"You chose your daughters over my son, Julian," I said, stepping closer, my shadow swallowing him whole. "But you forgot that I don't negotiate with traders. You have exactly sixty seconds to tell me where Victor is hosting the consolidation meeting with the New Jersey families tonight, or I will ensure your family experiences the exact same fire that took my Sophia."
"The port!" Halloran shrieked, tears of pure terror spilling over his wrinkled face. "The port of Newark! Pier 42! Victor is hosting a private dinner on his luxury yacht tonight to celebrate his takeover of the Rossi shipping lines. He thinks you're dead, Lorenzo! He thinks he’s already the head of the family!"

I looked at Marco, who was standing near the door of the van. "Get the district attorney on the line. Have him prepare the arrest warrants for corporate fraud and murder conspiracy. But tell him the execution of those warrants will have to wait until I’ve delivered the family judgment."
I turned back to Halloran, my eyes as cold as a winter grave. "You're going to make a phone call to Victor, Julian. You're going to tell him the baby is dead, and that you've successfully managed the public relations cover-up. Lead him right into the harbor."
